BMS World Mission is a Christian mission organisation, working in around 40 countries on four continents. BMS believes in holistic mission, an approach that stays true to the Christian call to evangelisation without neglecting the duty to take care of the physical needs of the poor. BMS works through long, medium and short term workers, teams and volunteers, as well as a large number of supported national workers around the world, providing people, funding, training and expertise in the core areas of our work:
- Church Planting
- Development
- Disaster Relief
- Education
- Health
- Media and Advocacy
As one of the world's oldest Protestant mission organisations (founded in 1792 by William Carey, the father of modern mission) BMS has longstanding relationships with partner organisations, umbrella mission agencies and local church unions in the countries in which it works. This, along with a long-term approach, ethical policies and supreme cultural sensitivity has made BMS one of the most trusted names in mission worldwide.

the caribbean context: All teachers of theology are challenged to show the relevance of their subject. How will studying Greek, church history or the doctrine of the Trinity help us speak to today's world? Christian students tend to be activists: if a course doesn't enable them to plant six churches before breakfast, they question its relevance! |

the r word: I don't smile at people in supermarkets anymore. Not since my wife caught me smiling at an attractive young mother with her baby. Even after three years in our church, I'm forever saying, "I don't think I've met you before" to people I recognise. |

team's tsunami response: Boxing Day 2004: our bags were packed and our minds set on leaving the busyness of Colombo for a week's holiday in Bentota. We had heard that there was "flooding in some areas of Sri Lanka" but didn't understand until our host rang up half an hour before we were due to leave telling us that our holiday was postponed. The guesthouse where we were going to be staying had been wiped out. |

hiv/aids training in uganda: One Sunday morning in church I was handed a piece of paper containing a list of names, one of which was mine. Later in the service, it was announced that those whose names were on the list had to stay behind after church for a meeting. At the meeting, I was told that the pastor wished to educate the congregation and the wider community on the awareness of HIV/Aids. |
